Sean O'Malley, solidified his superstar status with a victory over Aljamain Sterling in the bantamweight title fight at UFC 292. O'Malley showcased his skills and ended the fight with a TKO finish in just 51 seconds of the second round earning him the Bantamweight belt.

As Sterling engaged him with punches , O'Malley countered with a hard right to Sterling's jaw. The impact sent Sterling to the canvas, and O'Malley wasted no time, delivering follow-up punches until the fight was stopped.

O'Malley expressed his confidence in his abilities, stating, "In my eyes, Aljamain Sterling is the best bantamweight of all time. ... But how can I not be confident when I possess this f---ing right hand, baby?"

UFC president Dana White hailed the fight as the biggest bantamweight title main event ever on pay-per-view, attributing much of its success to O'Malley. The event drew a gate of $7.25 million, showcasing O'Malley's star power.

Sterling's loss marked the end of an impressive nine-fight winning streak, the longest in the history of the UFC bantamweight division. With three successful title defenses under his belt, Sterling had the opportunity to surpass Dominick Cruz and TJ Dillashaw in the record books. Nonetheless, Sterling remains determined and optimistic about his future in the UFC, stating, "I've lost before. I've been knocked out before. I've picked myself up and become UFC champion. Don't be surprised if you see me back here again."

O'Malley's victory as a +200 favorite surprised many, as critics had highlighted his supposed vulnerability against skilled wrestlers and grapplers like Sterling. However, as UFC President Dana White emphasized, unexpected outcomes often occur in fights, and O'Malley's victory demonstrated the significance of individual fighting styles.

Following the fight, Sterling had initially expressed his intention to move up to the featherweight division, where Alexander Volkanovski reigns as champion. However, after his defeat, he reassessed his plans and expressed his desire for a rematch against O'Malley. "If [O'Malley] caught me like that," Sterling said, "I could only imagine what Volkanovski would do to me." He believes he has earned the right to an immediate rematch so stay tuned to see how that unfolds.
